Participation in the Sector X gas pedal in partnership with Foxtrot.

Tocan Solutions participated in a gas pedal organized by Sector X in the Logistics industry track. Foxtrot was a partner of the track. The company is the main customer for ideas and prototypes of solutions that should automate areas in supply chain management and move to the status of pilot projects.

Applications for the gas pedal were set to begin on December 20, 2019. Throughout January, we developed our idea - a solution for automatically determining the weight and dimensions of packages or individual SKUs. It will replace imprecise, inconvenient and expensive technology for measuring volumes of objects.

Tocan Solutions has been automating transportation and warehousing processes for more than three years, and some of our experts and engineers have been working in this field for more than 10 years. We often find that companies have difficulty determining the weight and dimensions of goods or do not have accurate data in their accounting systems.

Weight specifications are used when it is necessary to pack, transport and receive shipments and goods, place them in storage in warehouses or transshipment hubs. An inaccuracy of 10 cm is sometimes reversed by the inability to fit another box into a truck or a pallet into a storage cell.

People in logistics will tell you that losing space is losing money.

With experience in logistics automation and knowledge in IT-engineering, we found a solution. Through the use of computer vision technology, we have implemented a process for automatically determining and calculating the volume of objects.

What such a solution consists of:

  1. The area on which the object to be measured should be placed.
  2. The surface of the site is marked with marks for greater accuracy of the resulting dimensions.
  3. Cameras are placed above the marked area at a certain angle. In this way, human vision is simulated and the neural network is trained. The neural network begins to understand the depth and distance between objects (labels).

As a result, we get accurate and fast measurement results. Everything happens automatically. In this way, we reduce costs and reduce the number of errors.

We already have a stand to measure some objects, boxes and crates. We plan to start testing on pallets soon.

Who could be interested in this? Companies that have their own logistics (manufacturers, trading companies) or provide logistics services (logistics operators, 3PL, fullfilment).

Are there analogues? Yes, there are analogues. But, we have retained the main advantages of our competitors while eliminating a number of disadvantages of this technology.

The solution from Tocan Solutions is easily scalable, because we won't be selling hardware that is difficult to configure and maintain, but rather cloud software.

Space is the currency of warehouse and transport logistics. You didn't measure accurately - you lost space - you lost money. Inaccurate measurement of cargo and goods costs money.
